You're most likely looking for something specific. A nice pump, a sneaker, a strappy sandal, you have something in mind to complete your look. If you have a really vast collection you may also want to sort each style into color groups as well. That way all your blue sneakers would be together and all your tan sandals would be in one place.
Access Is Key
As you're sorting, put the shoes you wear most often in the easiest to access area. Save that corner in the back for the dress shoes that you only wear on special occasions. Remember, you're trying to make your life easier. On those mornings when you're running late you'll appreciate being able to quickly grab the shoes you need. That's also a good reason not to stack your shoes sky high. It may take up less space and look neat, but when you need the box on the bottom you're going to regret that leaning tower of shoes.
