simple home inventory solutionWe designed Stockpile to make inventory management easier and we are always looking for ways to make other aspects of your life run more smoothly as well.  Today, we have some easy at home hacks that will streamline your closet.  Keep reading for our tips.

  1. Clear out the junk. If it doesn't fit, if it doesn't match anything else in your closet, if it's itchy, or uncomfortable in any way - Let it go! For more on the importance of clearing out your closet read our previous post on the subject.
  2. Organize based on how you get dressed. We don't believe in one size fits all inventory management solutions and we don't think closet management should be any different. To really work for you, your closet needs to be organized in a way that makes sense to you. If you choose what you're going to wear by color, group your clothes that way. If temperature is your biggest deciding factor organize your clothes by warmth level. You know how you look for things to wear, arrange your clothes so that it will be easier for you to find what you want.
  3. Lost in the shuffle. Long items have a bad habit of covering up anything underneath them.  Try to avoid placing items underneath those long pieces that will hide them. If you have double rows of hanging stuff put shorter items on the top row so that they don't pool against the second row of hangers. If you do have to put shoes or something else underneath long items try to choose pieces that you seldom wear. If you use Stockpile to manage your clothes and other accessories, you won't have to worry about forgetting that you own those out of sight pieces.
  4. Don't get hung up. Let's talk about hangers. Most people pull something off and just leave the hanger where it is. That's great at the time but what happens when you're ready to hang up your laundry? You have to sift through your entire closet to locate the empty hangers. If you pull the hanger out as you're taking the item off of it and relocate it to the end of the rack all your empties will be right there waiting to be refilled on laundry day. Pretty convenient, right?
  5. Keep track of what you wear.  Now that you've reorganized and you have a great system for getting dressed, take a little time to think about what you're wearing and what you're not. Just 'cause something fits that doesn't mean that it gets worn often. If, after a few months, you realize that you have certain items that you consistently pass over in favor of others weed them out. Keeping things that you don't wear is a bad thing. It takes up room, increases wear on the other items hanging in your closet and it makes it harder for you to get dressed each and every morning. Now who wants that?
