Our online inventory system and custom labels

Recently we added labeling as an option in Stockpile. This gives you the option to add custom labels to your inventory. We noticed a number of you had requested a better way to categorize your items. That said, we tried to avoid the hierarchical approach and went with tagging (or labeling) instead. Much like gmail and other new technology, this approach is vastly more scalable than the traditional top down approach to classification. Try our free online inventory system today and enjoy the flexibility that comes with labels.

Aside from allowing you to be more specific this also gives you the ability to create labels that make sense to you. Your supplier may call item x “small x” but you stock three other x’s that are actually smaller than brand y’s “small x” so labeling it small would be a misnomer. You can create the label “medium x” and then label your other options “small x”, “tiny x” and “microscopic x” if that is what makes sense to you. This applies to any aspect of your product. If you want to be able to search by color you can customize the labels to fit what you consider the color to be - not what the manufacturer decided to name it. Labeling something as cerulean is only helpful if you know that cerulean is a shade of blue. Likewise elderberry, pacific, malachite, fallow and too many others to name.

Labels, like everything else in Stockpile, are designed to fit your business and to work for you.
