Sorry if the title now has the song from “Frozen” playing in your head, but the message needs to be driven home this time of year. Hum along and keep reading to find out what this has to do with your small business. Here are three situations when you should take Elsa’s advice and just “Let It Go!”

This isn’t the first time we’ve talked about how important it is delegate and let others help you. As a matter of fact, we made that task simple for users of our free inventory software. Try it out and see for yourself.

With summer coming, odds are you’re hoping to be away from the office more than usual. You deserve the break, but you can’t afford to let it negatively impact your business. It’s great to be in control and to have the final say in how things are done, but if you are the only one that can make the call it really ties you to the office. If you are unreachable for any reason things will grind to a halt. If you include a co-worker when you make decisions they can start to get a feel for your process and what items are going to earn your approval. In a pinch, they could make an educated guess at what your decision would be in a given situation, thus keeping things moving even when you’re away.

Even if you’re in the office, there are times when a problem arises that just doesn’t have a quick and easy solution. It might be tempting to be somewhat possessive of your project and want to find the answer on your own. If you’ve devoted over an hour to the issue and still don’t see how you’re going to resolve it, call a co-worker in to help. Not only will they bring a fresh pair of eyes to view the situation, they likely have skills and experience that could help you out. Solving the problem will allow you to move on to other things which will be better for your business in the long run. Admitting that you need help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a strength to recognize and be willing to do what it takes to keep a project on track. It can also make your employees feel valuable and empowered which could have a positive ripple effect impact on your business as well.

What if you’ve invested time and money in a solution for your business and it just isn’t generating the results you had hoped for? Of course any new solution takes some time to pay off. Even our free inventory software comes with challenges as users have to be trained on the process you set up. There may be a learning curve for staff and/or customers as you transition to a new way of doing things. There may be some complications caused by hardware or software changes and that is all normal, but if you’ve given something six or more months and it just isn’t working out the way you expected it might be time to let it go. Yes, it’s hard to accept that you spent money and time implementing something and never saw the return you were hoping for on the investment, but continuing to waste time and money isn’t going to improve the situation. Learn from your mistake. When you consider a new solution keep in mind what worked and what didn’t with the last system that you tried. You’ll have a much better idea of what you need this time and are much more likely to choose something that will provide the desired results. The sooner you make the switch, the better off your company will be in the long run.

Remember, delegate, don’t be afraid to ask for help, and don’t keep throwing good money into solutions that aren’t working for you business. Just “Let It Go!” And a great way to do that would be signing up for our free inventory software and delegating stock keeping to someone else.
