Correcting Inventory Management Mistakes

Stockpile | Free Online Inventory Management

It's inevitable that you're going to make mistakes when managing your inventory. After all, you're only human. Stockpile inventory management was designed to key off of SKU (your own unique numbering systems to identify products in your store). What happens if you make a mistake? There's a number of things you can do:

  • Deactivate the Item: This allows you to deactivate and item you no longer need to keep track up but you would like to report against and keep history. From an inventory management perspective; however, you'll be unable to reuse the SKU assigned to this item.
  • Delete the Item: This allows you to act like the transaction never occurred. However, we built the tool in such a way that we even thought deletes could happen by mistake. So we created a restore function. For the restore to work properly, we have to keep the data intact as it was when it was entered. Hence you're unable to use the SKU of a delete item.

Get Creative and Reuse that SKU:

  • Make sure the product/item in question is active in the inventory list (not deleted/deactivated)
  • Pull up the item with the SKU you’d like to reuse
  • Edit the item you just pulled up changing it’s SKU to something other than the SKU you’d like to use
  • Now add the new item with the SKU you want to use
  • Delete the item where you changed the SKU where you don’t have those transaction in your logs
