As temperatures rise our motivation level often decreases. Not only would we rather be outdoors enjoying the beautiful weather, but higher temperatures tend to sap our energy. 1. Review your vision. Where would you like to see your business this Fall? Next year? Now is the time to start taking steps to reach those goals. If you mentally take the summer off you could end up scrambling to catch up later. That's another good reason to use our free online inventory program. 2. Send Yourself to Summer School. Now is a great time to do some research. Read about your competitors and any factors that could influence your marketplace. Learn as much as you can so that you can create better goals for your business.
  3. Create a reasonable To Do list. Having a list of short terms goals is great for keeping you on track. If the list is too overwhelming though, it can have a negative impact on your motivation. Keep it short so that you can achieve a frequent sense of accomplishment as you finish one list and begin another.
  4. Break larger less fun tasks into smaller chunks. Devote a set amount of time each day to working on these less pleasant duties. Tasks are easier to tackle when you don’t have to commit to finishing the whole job at once.
  5. Alter your weekly routine. Even a slight change can have a big impact. Take a different route to the office. Change up your breakfast or lunch routine. Schedule a meeting in an unusual location. The change of scenery might do everyone some good.
  6. Give yourself a break. Building breaks into your day gives you something to look forward to. You can even use a break as a reward for tackling a task that you’ve been putting off. When I finish “x” I will sit outside for fifteen minutes and enjoy a snack. That promised bit of relaxation might be all you need to get motivated.
  7. Go for a walk. Fresh air and sunshine can do wonders to improve your outlook. Have a problem that puzzling you? Take a walk to clear your head. You might see the solution more clearly if you step away for a bit.
  8. Eat lunch outside. Whether you take a packed lunch to a picnic table or choose patio seating at a restaurant, being outside in the middle of the day can really recharge your batteries for the afternoon.
  9. Decide on a quitting time and stick to it. When you make your own hours it’s easy to push yourself too hard. It stays light later in the summertime and it’s easy to think that we should keep working. Pushing yourself too hard will lead to burnout and bad business decisions. Decide on a reasonable quitting time and then make yourself stop working. You can start again refreshed in the morning.
  10. Schedule summer fun. Don’t let summer pass you by. Make time for your favorite summer activities. Those little breaks can make you more productive during the times that you are working. Plus, there is nothing like a dose of summer fun to improve your mood.
