We've talked a lot about avoiding ruts and trying new things with your small business. We'll use example of how business owners adopted our free inventory management software to create successful change to show how this is done. To revisit our posts on change, you can also click here or here. Today we're going to focus on really stepping outside of your comfort zone. As we were planning a recent vacation, someone suggested that we trying camping in a national park. My first reaction was "No Way!" I'm not a camper under normal circumstances and the idea of flying all the way across the country to go camping seemed absolutely crazy. I resisted. I looked for alternatives. Finally, I accepted that camping might actually be the best option. We did it. We flew across the country, spent a night in a lovely hotel and then made our way to the national park to camp. When they told us we had to go to rental station to get our bedding, I was less than thrilled. Wait, what? I'm on vacation and I have to make beds? This is not what I signed up for. After we set up camp we started exploring. Later that night I realized the appeal. Instead of having to worry about driving almost 2 hours to get outside of the park and make our way to our hotel, we only had to drive down the mountain to our campsite. We were able to spend more time enjoying the beauty of the park. More time enjoying each other. We fell asleep in the park and woke up in the park which provided a host of experiences we would have missed out on otherwise. The point is that sometimes stepping outside of your comfort zone can have amazing results. For example, most business owners are afraid to try new technology - like our free inventory management software for small business. Did you know by stepping out of your comfort zone many business owners are seeing their monthly stock-keeping activities becomes 300-400% more efficient?

Following the same processes won't progress your business. Sometimes in business you need to shake things up. Sometimes you need to try something new to make the advancements that you seek. Maybe something new is technology that helps make things run better just like the previous example we provided about users who adopted our free inventory management software for small business.

Really consider all the new options. If you're rejecting an idea because it's too expensive or too labor intensive that's one thing. If you're rejecting an idea because it's not comfortable and familiar that's a whole other issue. Make sure that you aren't holding your business back with your own reservations. Give yourself permission to take chances. You may be pleasantly surprised with the results.
