We do our best to listen to your feedback and incorporate features that make Stockpile, online inventory management, more useful for your small businesses. In an upcoming release, we are rolling out the use of labels so that you may better categorize your stock/inventory. We already including product level fields for manufacturers, areas, SKU, UPC and location. What we'd noticed is that while these fields are used by almost everyone there are certain categories that are specific to an industry.
Let's recap really quickly about how the online inventory system is intended to be used. Areas correspond to things like shelves or locations within a stockroom, display rack, warehouse or any other virtual/physical place things might be stored. For location, well that's pretty straightforward. This is the place or places where the areas set aside for stock storage are located. Next, we look at manufacturers. Again, this is an easy concept b/c it's the maker of the product (which can be left blank of course if the item you're storing is a raw material or generic brand).
With labels, we now allow you to further categorize your products by things like size (e.g., labels of small, medium, large can be created). Or how about color (e.g., red, blue, green and yellow can be made into labels)? What about type of jean (e.g., boot cut, relaxed, skinny). As you can see, the list goes on and on because there's really no limit to the amount of labels you could create nor is there a set list of products someone could/might store for later use. As the practice of inventory management is varied, our system had to evolve to include each of your specific use cases. If you haven't already, sign up and create yourself a free account today. And be on the lookout for labels, additional future release and fun new tools from Canvus.
