Baking Basics

Talk to a group of bakers about any recipe and you’re sure to get varying responses. Some people like butter, others swear by shortening. Some are sifters, some are stirrers. Most believe there is one ingredient that can make or break the outcome, but few can agree on which item is key.  One thing all bakers can agree on? To make anything you’ve got to have the right ingredients and they can’t be expired. The only thing worse than opening your pantry to discover you’re out of an ingredient is realizing that you have the ingredient but it is unusable because it expired months.

We’ve talked a lot recently about the benefits of using Stockpile free inventory solution at home. In our previous post Stock Up and Really Save we discussed the fact that Stockpile can save you money by helping you avoid situations where you buy items that you already have. Perhaps even more importantly, it can help you use up the items you have that are nearing their expiration dates. It might seem overwhelming when you think about entering all of your possessions into Stockpile. (It’s really not a difficult job, we promise.) Even though it’s quick and easy to enter items into Stockpile, just knowing that you have a ton of items can make just thinking about the job stressful. That’s why today we’re back to suggest that you start by just entering your baking supplies into Stockpile. Baking supplies are an area that can particularly benefit from Stockpile because often they are sold in larger quantities than you need for a single recipe so you end up with leftover ingredients hanging around. Wait too long to use them and they will expire. Think for a moment about your spices. How many jars are sitting in your spice rack right now missing just a ¼ teaspoon or less? Do you have both dark brown and light brown sugar in your kitchen? Can you even remember what you needed the dark brown sugar for?

Chances are you don’t have the time, or let’s be honest the inclination, to go spend an hour or two in the kitchen going through every spice and baking ingredient to check the expiration dates. At least not as often as a job like that needs to be done. Entering these items into Stockpile free inventory solution means you need to that job once and then you will be able to consistently track your ingredient usage. By adding expiration dates as a label in Stockpile you can even search to see which ingredients need to be used up soon.  Thanks to Stockpile you can reduce the amount of food you waste, and be assured that when you have the urge to bake one of your favorites you’ll actually be able to.

Another issue when you’re ready to bake can be locating ingredients, especially those seldom used ones that tend to migrate to the back of the cupboard or pantry. Why waste time searching for something you may or may not even have? If you enter your ingredients into Stockpile and create areas for each cabinet and shelf in your kitchen you’ll have no trouble quickly locating the things that you need. Someone else wants to bake? Even better. Now they won’t have to constantly ask you where things are located. Using Stockpile they can look up items on their own.

Maybe the inspiration to bake hit you at the grocery store. Now you won’t have to try to remember what you have at home and what you need to pick up. Stockpile is mobile compatible so you can look it up on your smartphone or other mobile device. Save yourself that return trip to the store. Buy what you need now and skip buying stuff that you already have at home.
