Process Improvement Through Technology

In the past we’ve talked a lot about process improvement and technology, today we’re going to focus more on how the two go hand in hand. There are examples everywhere. From the vendor at the craft fair who can now make more sales because they can process credit card payments to the restaurant that reduces order errors by allowing customers to enter their own orders tableside, technology is improving the way that we do things and making us more efficient.  Speaking of making things more efficient, have you tried our free inventory software for small business? What's that you say? How can you offer free inventory software for small business?  That's easy. We needed a solution for our small business inventory needs so we built one. Try it free today! Fall is a great time to focus on improving our processes. The holiday season is fast approaching and retailers need to be ready for the rush. Customers always appreciate a quick and easy checkout process but never more so than during the holidays when they have more on their To-do lists. It’s not just faster point of sale solutions either, the time that you save on any business process can be translated into more time for you to devote to your customers. That extra bit of customer service can be the difference between a one time sale and a customer for life.

Some examples of technological advancement are easy to accept as better.  Anyone remember the pain of dialing a rotary phone? That cord that never stretched quite as far as you’d like? It’s unlikely anyone would argue that cordless pushbutton phones and cell phones aren’t positive advancements. Remember trekking to the library to do research for a school project? Whether you are part of the encyclopedia generation or not, you have to admit that being able to access data on the internet from the comfort of your own home is a lot more convenient. Other changes aren’t as obvious and unarguably superior. With the rapid pace of technological changes, often the benefits are smaller and more subtle because they continue to occur incrementally over time.

Let’s go back to that To-do list that your customers have. Trusty old paper and pen will work to track it, but there are so many more options out there.  So if pen and paper works, why switch? Apps like Wunderlist and Todoist do more than just list your tasks and let you check them off when they’re completed. These apps will allow you to prioritize tasks, delegate, break things down into smaller tasks and provide reminders.  Todoist even offers location based reminders. Need to get milk? Todoist will ping you when you’re at the grocery store.  A paper list can’t do that!
