The Cloud Computing Tornado

In several previous posts we’ve discussed the benefits of cloud computing. This quote from Forbes contributor TJ McCue illustrates just how quickly cloud computing is catching on.  “Instead of a slow-moving fluffy white cloud image, the cloud computing industry should use a tornado – that might be a better way to visualize how fast cloud computing is growing today.”

To back up his imagery choice McCue quotes some statistics provided by SiliconAngle contributor Jack Woods.

  • By 2015, end-user spending on cloud services could be more than $180 billion

  • It is predicted that the global market for cloud equipment will reach $79.1 million by 2018

Clearly, cloud computing is a rapidly growing market segment.  It seems like everyone is jumping on the bandwagon, but you haven’t succeeded in business by blindly following the crowd. So why should you consider cloud computing for your small business? Jack Woods has some other statistics that detail what’s in it for you.

  • 82% of companies reportedly saved money by moving to the cloud

  • 80% of cloud adopters saw improvements within six months of moving to the cloud

Those two factors are key. Moving to cloud based operations allows small businesses to save money and to realize improved quality of services.  With the cloud you get more for less and who doesn’t want that? Using cloud based services provides better visibility and if you’ve read our recent posts on process mapping and having contingency plans in place you understand the benefits of having information readily available to multiple employees at any given time.  Cloud services provide better accessibility.  You can access your data from multiple locations which makes it easier to get the information that you want when you want it.

Another benefit of using the cloud is the opportunity for rapid development of new products and services.  When you remove location based obstacles to accessing data, sharing ideas, and getting work you will be amazed at how quickly meaningful collaboration can occur. This in turn can lead to increased cost savings and improved revenue.

We’re not suggesting that you should try cloud computing just because so many others are using it. What we are suggesting, is that you take a long hard look at the potential benefits of cloud computing.  If it can create a positive impact on your small business, why wait? Join the cloud today!
