Paint by Numbers

free home inventory systemRemember those paint by number sheets you used to do as a kid? They may have limited your creativity by telling you which color to use where, but they did ensure that the picture came out right. Most people love to add color to their homes. Builder beige is greeted with a look of disdain for good reason. Not only is it boring, it's typically not the highest quality paint either. That leads many people to head to their local paint store shortly after they move in.

Because most people like to mix it up and paint different rooms different colors, your local paint store probably tracks your past purchases. This means that they can look up which colors you've purchased from them. What they can't tell you is what room you painted, how much paint you had left, or where you stored it. For that you need Stockpile free home inventory system.

There are several things you'll need to know about the paint you use in your home. Of course, you'll want to know the basics. What color it is, what finish (satin, gloss, semi-gloss), what kind (both brand and level of paint) and how old it is. This is all information that your seller will have on file. However, you probably don't want to call Home Depot, Lowes, or Sherwin Williams every time you have a question about any of these factors. If you add this info to your Stockpile records you'll have one easy point of access to learn everything you need to know. Plus, you can include other details such as which room you used it in, what type of brush you used to apply the paint, and any comments such as how many coats it took to achieve your desired result.

Some of this may seem unnecessary at first, but if you're like me you may find yourself using similar colors in different rooms. At first it will be easy to remember that the foyer is Shagreen while the bedroom is Spring Green but after a few years you'll probably forget which is which. When you open the paint cans the two colors may look very similar but if you put the wrong one on the wall, you'll see the difference for sure.

Another mistake you want to avoid is using old paint. Paint doesn't last forever. Just because it hasn't dried up that doesn't mean that it's still okay to use on your wall. Old paint may not go on as smoothly, it may not dry properly, and it could even be slightly off colorwise because of its age. Any of these issues could negatively impact your finished result. Worse yet, old paint could be letting off harmful fumes that you don't want your family breathing in. It's always a good idea to keep track of the age of the paint you have on hand and just replace it with a new batch if you need to touch up a room that was painted years ago.
