“I Have Nothing to Wear!”

free home inventory solutionYou know the feeling.  You dig around in your closet for precious minutes and can't find anything to suitable to wear.  In frustration, you exclaim "I have nothing to wear!" Now if you truly had nothing to wear the search of your closet wouldn't have taken any time at all. The mere fact that you were able to rifle through the rack for several minutes proves that you do have clothes. You were just unable to locate anything you wanted to wear.  So, what's the problem? Are you a terrible shopper? Have you outgrown or worn out everything you own? Highly unlikely. Chances are the problem is the way your closet is organized, or rather the lack of organization.  With Stockpile free home inventory solution, we are all about saving you time and money and helping you get the most value out of the things you own.  To that end, we are here today with some tips to help you organize your closet so that you can always find something to wear.

  1. Start with a clean slate.  We don't mean that you should get rid of everything in your closet and buy new. You should, however, go through your closet and try everything on. If it doesn't fit, if it's a style that you hope never comes back in fashion, if it's worn - let it go. Only keep the pieces that look good, fit well and are in good condition. Once you have a 'clean slate' of good pieces you will be ready to start building a closet that works for you.
  2. Organize the way that you get dressed. Take a moment to consider how you get dressed. Do you start by choosing your top, your bottom, or deciding on a particular color to wear? You may be somewhat restricted by the placement of the rods in your closet (i.e. pants may need to hang on one wall with tops on the other), but you probably have flexibility when it comes to how you organize the items within each category.  Some people like to have their tank tops together and then their t-shirts before moving on to long sleeved tops. Others like to group by color, all navy tops in one area, then white, then bright colors. There is no right or wrong way to organize your closet. The key is to choose the method that is going to work the best for when you are getting dressed.  If it makes it easier for you to find the things that you need, then it works.
  3. Hang things up properly. Often the reason we can't locate something in the closet is because it's only half in the closet. Items that are falling off of their hangers will be harder to locate as you rummage through the rack. Worst case scenario they slip completely off the hanger and end up wadded up in the floor. Good luck finding that the next time you want it. Even if you do locate it, do you want to wear a wrinkled, rumpled item from your closet floor? Probably not.
  4. Put things back where they belong. The problem with a well organized closet is that it takes longer to put your laundry away. No more creating space at the end of the rack and just shoving everything in. You'll need to put each piece back in the proper section if you want your organization to last. Trust us, it's worth the extra effort. You'll save so much more time on a daily basis, that it will more than make up for the extra minutes you spend on laundry day.
  5. Track your clothing. When you keep track of your clothing, you'll always know what you have and where to find it. Not only will this help you get dressed every day, it will keep you from buying pieces that you don't need. How many times have you picked up something new at the store only to get it home and realize that you already own something similar? Ugh! What a waste.  Have you ever passed up something only to realize that the one you had at home is too small, too big, or just plain worn out. Not a good outcome, either. If you use Stockpile to track your clothes, you'll know what you have and what you need. That equals better shopping decisions and easier location of clothes when you get home.
